MOST REQUESTED POEM

In all the years of the Bard competition, the most requested poem has been ‘My Friend Kate’ by the late Joan Gaffney.  It seems that the ode has become a party piece all over the country.  Since Fr. Brian Darcy played it a few times on his Sunday morning BBC programme, requests have been coming in regularly for the words and seeking the recording.  The words are now posted on the lyrics section of the website here and the poem is one of the tracks on the live recording, ‘A Classic Collection of Collectable Classics’ compilation CD. The late Joan was a bard of elegance, style and originality who had the wonderful facility of fully engaging her audience fully with her fanciful verse.  A champion for all female participants in the competition, she is still sadly missed.
